FMN relies on donations and grants to fund our cafes and initiatives. Above are sponsors who have contributed their time, money, and/or expertise to help provide support to FMN. 100% of our donations and grants go towards our cafe's. To our sponsors, and all of our community donours, we'd like to say thank you.
The opportunity to have a wearable pin that raises dementia awareness
Have you seen our ladies wearing our FMN shirts and wanted one too? FMN gives out T-shirt and bumper stickers at every cafe for a donation cost of $25.00. Just ask one of our lovely champions or founders for one at your next cafe get-together.
FMN is a not for profit, non funded community event. Each month, our lovely ladies pay for the cost of running our administration, printing, table top activities and free raffles. They do it because this cause is so close to their hearts, and they care for every member of our community as they navigate the new future that life has laid in front of them.
These T-shirt packs provide some support in keeping this initiative going, with 100% of any proceeds raised by FMN in any form, going straight back into the running of FMN cafes. They also have the added benefit of raising awareness of not only Alzhiemers, but also for memory cafe's and dementia support around WA.
FMN is in the process of seeking government funding through Local Governments, and has so far been successful for two cafe's! This will help us help the community even more, and we are so appreciative of the support.
Toodyay Lions Club have provided a generous $500 gift towards the purchase of headphones, to be distributed to local residents who are living with dementia.
The headphones stream music wirelessly, enabling people to listen to their favourite radio stations and play preloaded MP3 files from any microSD card.
This means that those living with dementia who may find it overwhelming in new environments or around new people, or those who may just be finding general situations difficult, can create their own familiar and calm space through music.
The headphones can be loaded with loved ones favourite songs, and give them a way to separate themselves from the stress of their surroundings.
FMN looks forward to helping distribute these amazing gifts to the local community, thanks to the extremely generous Toodyay Lions Club.
We are so very grateful for their support.
Forget-Me-Not is looking to have pins produced to encourage dementia awareness throughout Australia. These pins would be available to wear to create knowledge and awareness of persons living with dementia. With a universally known symbol, it is our hope that if those living with dementia were to wander away from their carer, the general public would associate the pin with dementia and be more likely to offer assistance if found alone.
we have had a great response from those attending the FMN memory cafe's as well as from Local Governments and Minister Mick Murray MLA Minister for Ageing; volunteering; sport and recreation, but want to survey the community to see if this idea is supported.
In 2018, Angi's husband Michael went missing in Kings Park, much to the distress of friends and family. He disappeared around 4pm in the afternoon, and by 6pm the Police and SES were out in full force searching the area. Near 9pm a police officer managed to locate Michael in the City.
Alone, he had managed to cross numerous busy roads and wander the streets until an officer recognised him and brought him back to family.
This was an amazingly outcome for the family; more fortunate than many others who have been in this same situation. The realisation that Michael could have been lost and yet surrounded by people, while unable to understand he was missing, horrified the family. Things could easily have ended much differently.
It was then that Forget-Me-Nots realised that finding a nationally recognised emblem, just as with the daffodil pin and pink and blue ribbons, may help the general public become more aware of Dementia and the people who live with it.
Easier to spot than an emergency bracelet, and more visible than an ID card which would be placed in a bag or wallet, a bright pin would draw the eye and with enough knowledge, the general population would be able to more easily notice a person wanderingly alone within a crowd.
Our aim with these pins is not to force our loved ones to wearing badges to make them victims of abuse or unwanted attention, but to give piece of mind to carers whose loved ones are prone to wandering while on excursions.
These pins could be a simple yet effective way to keep Dementia in the minds and hearts of those otherwise unfamiliar with this disease.
Forget-Me-Not has been in talks with the Freshwater Bay Rotary Club, who have been working tirelessly to fund and support us in obtaining our Dementia Awareness pins!
Our Pins are now ready to be given out, at no cost at all of our cafe's.
Forget-Me-Not have a range of companion pets, purchased through The Dementia Shop, and funded by the City of Kalamunda that we bring to all our Cafe's for our attendee's enjoyment.
These companion pets come in small packages, with our tiny sleeping puppies and kittens that rest quietly and sooth with their quiet breaths, to our larger cats and dogs, that interact with movement and sounds.
All animals come with their own carry cases, brushes and batteries.
FMN has decided that these pets are so popular, they should be made available to everyone! So the ladies have created our first ever activity library.
For an upfront cost of $30.00, you can take home one of our pets for 28 days, with $20 *refunded on return. Each pet is loaned with the option of an activity pouch.
Also available for hire are our headphones, each with their own SD card loaded with music.
Come along to a FMN café if you're interested in taking home a pet.
*FMN retains $10 for maintenance and cleaning. the full $30 will be relinquished if the item is damaged / not returned or needs to be replaced. options to borrow pets will depend on stock.
If you wish to purchase your own companion pet from the Dementia Shop Australia, they have kindly supplied an option for attendees to get a PDF Montessori Matching Activity with any purchase. All customers need to do is to mention Forget-Me-Not in the extra information area on all orders. An emailed PDF will follow.
With a grant from the City of Mandurah, Forget-Me-Not was lucky enough to compile a collection of life stories and poems from the residents of the City of Mandurah.
This book highlighted memories from those living with dementia and their loved ones before and after diagnosis. This book is a celebration of life, and we at Forget-Me-Not were deeply moved and grateful to be given access to a slice of people's lives.
This book was printed and given out at a book launch held at MANPAC and made possible by the City of Mandurah.
Forget-Me-Not have enjoyed every part of collating this book and look forward to publishing more books when possible.
This book has not been made available for purchase and will not be recreated due to copywrite issues which may arise; however, future collections will hopefully be available for purchase depending on terms of publishing.
